Description

Print these cute button shaped sewing weights to help you with cutting your patterns!

Each button contains two large washers that give it it's weight. For the 50mm washer diameter button, the weight per button is about 90g. The washers are inserted during a print through a pause that is set right before the cavity for the washers is printed shut. To prevent issues from adding cold metal to a print, I recommend warming up the washers on the bed for a few seconds before inserting them. Just be careful to not slide them around too much to not damage your bed!

I provided files for two sizes of washers.

  • 50mm washers with 17mm inner diameter and 3mm thickness.
  • 2" washers with 3/4" inner diameter and 0.13" thickness.

Pick the one that works best for you!

I found for the cleanest results, cover your top washer with a layer of painters tape to help give the filament something to stick to easier. If you want a mostly smooth top layer, make sure to keep your washers warm before putting them in. I found resting the washers on my build plate got them nice and toasty and usually didn’t mess anything up. Press resume and wait for the nozzle to heat up before putting in the washers. If you’re doing multiple at a time, wait until it’s almost done putting the top layer on one before putting the washers in the next one, that way they stay warm. I love these so much I printed a bunch for myself and my grandmother. I got my washers at home depot and got a 25 pack for like $12. Even with the cost of filament (which isn’t much) these are WAYYY cheaper than buying pattern weights from Joann’s. Thank you so much for designing and uploading these.

This was probably the most helpful advice I have ever seen for making sure that you have a perfect print.

These print amazing! I absolutely love em. I'll boost as soon as I have some available as it's a flawless print. No painters tape needed although I did use warm washers with each use. I really enjoyed this print.Attached is the product I used from home depot for the 2in buttons

I scaled these up as my washers are 2 1/2" wide.

I have not been able to print this. Every time it doesn't work to print the top layer. There is spaghetti. Yes, I have warmed up the washers and yes, I have also washed and dried them.

are the washers flush with the top layer? does it look like the top layer connects to the printed walls at all?

My experience was spaghetti on the first attempt, but I did not warm the washers up enough. For my other attempts I made sure i warmed the washers, was printing on the back, flat side, which I washed with alcohol and coated with magigoo. Ive printed quite a few since then following that routine without incident.

It is best to switch off the fans for the first layer after a pause, otherwise the filament will be blown away as it does not adhere properly to the build plate

i have got my washers,, printed several times ... even followed all the tricks in the comments but it does not work. i had to resize the width but left the depth the same ..it looks flush with the stop point but with the tape over top of washer it the nozzle peels the tape off and then goes off to left to do something with the nozzle.it doesn't work! so then i do without the tape and it doesn't work. i really want this to work, I like what you have but its not working can you make a file to print in half and it screws or clips together so how instead please?
