Ball In Cube
Print Profile(1)

Description
This is the world-famous Ball in Cube! There are many like it, but this one is mine.
I tend to print these as a stress test and/or example print for new filaments I try. It can be a challenge to get the quality of the sphere looking nice and it would be awesome if anyone had any suggestions. Still, it's pretty good I think and if there was any (probably not) Ball-in-Cube contest, I'd enter this one.
Features:
- 25mm that scales well.
- Separate parts for optional dual color printing
- Concentric circles used to make cube opening and sphere looks nice and uniform
- Sphere rests on the same surface plane as the cube (potential for no supports)
- Supports recommended but I've been able to print some materials without them.
- Fillets on all inside and outer edges for a nice pocket feel
Backstory (cause why not):
I wanted to learn about 3D printing and a maker space was one of the first places I took my now wife on a date (great time!). I only remember a few things besides how cute she looked. I saw some example prints and one of them was ball bearings that I learned was a ‘print in place’ part. Neat! We got to print something pre-made to try it out and we chose a rook chess piece. I still have it after all these years. Afterwards, I was more interested at the time to learn how to make my own objects so I decided to take a CAD class. Remembering how neat I thought the bearings were, this ball in cube was one of the first designs I made. I saw other designs online and thought of it as a sort of ‘hello world’ project, still do. The end.
I love seeing the designs other folks have made. If you haven't made one or are new to CAD, I definitely encourage you to. Also, go on a date at your local maker space ;)
