Description

This device mounts over the top of the door handle on the Bambu X1. When deployed the hinge folds back allowing for the catch to grab the side of the case creating a consistent and repeatable air gap for printing lower temp filaments. This design also avoids putting pressure on the door gasket and will not cause any impressions with long term use.

When not in use flatten the device and hang on the door handle for a convenient and out of the way storage solution.

To assemble print both halves of the device at 0.2 layerhight with a 0.4mm nozzle. Then insert a piece of 1.75mm filament (Scraps work perfect for this) through the hinge leaving about 1-2mm extra length on the top and bottom of the hinge. Then using a flame, or a soldering iron heat the end of the exposed filament just enough to soften and lightly press against a ridged surface creating a flat rivet like surface on each side.

it’s a wee bit too tight if I press it all the way down, but it works great if lightly on the handle.

It does what it should, and using filament for the hinge is clever. Though I would have preferred standard Lines for the top layer, rather than this Hilbert pattern.

I like it! Down 1 star as I had to post process the hinge line to allow it to flex past 90 degrees so as not to put too much strain on my door handle when trying to get it to latch on the printer frame.

It was a nice clean print. I too have to say that the pla in the hinge was a great idea. I left over a bit to heat and squish down to create a pin. I think you should mention in the description along w/ the pla instructions that the user might have to loosen the handle on the door to install. Also, I couldn't get mine to fit. I think you need to make a few adjustments. I didn't want to use force on my glass. Some others mentioned you should rework it to fit it better.

A very clever design using the filament as the joint

Thanks! It fits a little tight between the glass and the door handle in my case. I will have to sand the piece to fit it. A couple of millimeters less height would be great

Made one last night. The hinge is a little tight, but works great. 4.5/5.
