Description

Update 25/11/2023: I've added stronger versions of all 3 sizes. Some people were having difficulty printing the original model, so I've increased the height and thickened the links to give the model quite a bit more strength. The trade off is that the model is slightly less flexible, but definitely still a lot of fun to play with. Hope that helps!

Dual sided triangle “chain mail” style fabric. Fun to play with!

I recommend printing the tester first, as it is really important that the filament adheres well to the bed for a good print. If one triangle gets knocked off the bed, it can ruin the print (though I have had success if one or two get knocked loose).

The easier model to print (and more fun in my opinion) is the 120mm square, but I included a 250mm wide strip for those that want more of it.

I also highly recommend using a plastic scraper to remove the print from the bed, and you won't be able to get the fabric to release by bending the bed, and pulling on the fabric will snap the joints.

Consider changing filament on the middle layer to get a second colour on the flip side of the fabric!

Warning: The 250mm wide version of the fabric takes a very long time to slice!

It’s so dang cool that it makes me forget I’m living in a dystopian future! It just looks and feels like the future.

Sorry to hear that it fell apart when you tried to remove it. Did you let the print cool completely before trying to remove it? Usually, things literally slide off my textured PEI plate when I let it cool completely. If you did let it cool, you might try a thin glue layer to assist in removing the print. Hope you give it another go, this is one of my favorite fidgets! Let me know if you have any other issues.

Hey, not my model, but my print profile, was the filament old or is it silk? i either of these two things can mean it becomes brittle and can fail as you've described.

It was silk so I think that’s the problem

Printed fine but if I do the larger one how will I link them to make a full armor or you can’t link together ?

One person I know has sewn the sections together with thread and had quite good results. Another possible way is to pause the print at the layer just below the top triangle gets printed, and to thread on the previous print onto the edge. I've never tried this, but I think it should work. Just be careful how you arrange it on the print bed so that it doesn't get stuck in the mechanism!

I was going to try this exact method with upscaling dragons and printing them in parts. I cant find much info about this anywhere. funny I randomly read your comment and its based on the same thing Ive been looking for lol.. Im just about to print this.. Ive seen a phone case that used almost this exact same pattern on the back.. it was a printed case of course but it was epic

Cool toy, printed nicely but wasn't careful enough when taking it off the bed, I'd recommend waiting till plate cools down to the point it just slides by itself ;)
