Description

This is an initial version of a light box generator that creates customizable light boxes from either a vector image (SVG) or a PNG image. Currently, this version is limited in the shapes that the light boxes can take, offering only circular or rectangular options. In the future, when planned improvements by MakerWorld are implemented, I intend to expand the functionality to allow the shape of the image itself to define the shape of the light box.

How to Choose the Image

Choosing an image in the correct format is essential for achieving the best results. It is highly recommended to use SVG images, as the output quality will be significantly better.

  • SVG Images: The parametrizer cannot distinguish between different colors, so if the image contains multiple colors, it will treat them as a single block. Therefore, it is important to select an SVG without a background. If your SVG has a white background, you can edit the SVG file using a text editor and remove the lines referencing the colors you do not need. To assist you, I have uploaded three SVGs with the appropriate format as examples among the model resources.
  • PNG Images: As with SVGs, it is recommended to use a vector-style image with clearly defined edges. Ideally, a "coloring book" style drawing works best. If the results are not as expected, you may need to adjust the settings in the corresponding section (invert and cut depth).

A good prompt for ChatGPT to generate images could be: "Create a vector-style coloring drawing of..."

Key Features

General Options

  • Mode (mode): This option determines the operational mode of the design, with two possible settings:
    • preview: Sets up the design for a preview, allowing you to visualize how the light box will look before printing.
    • print: Configures the design for printing, optimizing settings for actual printing.
  • Image Type (imageType): Choose the format of the image that will be applied to the lid of the light box. You can select between:
    • svg: For vector-based images, which are scalable without loss of quality. (BEST RESULTS)
    • png: For raster-based images, which are pixel-based.

LightBox Options

  • Shape Type (shapeType): Choose between ellipse or rectangle to determine the overall shape of the light box.
  • Lightbox Height (lightboxHeight): This option sets the total height of the light box, defaulting to 30mm.
  • Wall Thickness (wallThickness): The thickness of the walls surrounding the light box is set at 2mm by default. This can be modified to ensure the structure's strength and durability according to the material used and the desired final appearance.
  • Base Thickness (baseThickness): The thickness of the base of the light box is set to 1mm. Adjusting this value allows you to create a more solid foundation, which can be important for stability.
  • Lid Thickness (lidThickness): The thickness of the lid is configurable, with a default of 0.8mm (usually a good size for allowing the light go through)
  • Join Height (joinHeight): The height of the joining section between the base and lid is adjustable. The default is 10mm, but you can modify this to ensure a secure fit and seamless connection between the components.

SVG Options

  • SVG File (svgFile): Specify the file name of the SVG image you want to use on the lid. This option allows you to choose the graphic that will be displayed on the light box.
  • SVG Scale (svgScale): Adjust the scale of the SVG image. The default scale is 0.35, but you can modify this to fit the image perfectly on the lid.

PNG Options

  • PNG File (pngFile): Specify the file name of the PNG image you want to use on the lid. This option allows you to select the graphic to be featured on the light box.
  • PNG Scale (pngScale): Adjust the scale of the PNG image. The default scale is 0.20, allowing you to size the image according to your design needs.
  • Invert PNG (invertPng): Set this option to true to invert the PNG image, changing how the image is rendered and cut.
  • PNG Cut Depth (pngCutDepth): Define the depth of the cut for the PNG image. The default is 50, which controls how deeply the image is engraved into the lid.

General Image Options

  • Image Offset (imageOffsetX, imageOffsetY): These options allow you to adjust the X and Y offsets of the image, enabling precise positioning on the lid for both SVG and PNG formats.

Rectangle Shape Options

  • Shape Width (shapeWidth): Defines the width of the rectangle for the light box.
  • Shape Height (shapeHeight): Sets the height of the rectangle.
  • Corner Radius (cornerRadius): Adjusts the radius of the corners for the rectangular shape.

Ellipse Shape Options

(Use the same value in both parameters for a circle)

  • ellipseRadiusX: X radius for ellipse if the shape type is selected.
  • ellipseRadiusY: Y radius for ellipse if the shape type is selected.

Frame Option

  • Add Frame (addFrame): Choose whether to include a frame around the light box by setting this option to true.
     
  • Frame Width (frameWidth): Set the width of the frame. The default width is 4mm, but you can adjust this to change the thickness of the frame surrounding the light box.

LED Hole Option

  • LED Hole Radius (ledHoleRadius): Defines the radius of the LED hole, which is set to 10mm by default. This hole is used to accommodate LED lighting in the design.
  • Offset X LED Hole (offsetXledHole): Adjust the X offset to position the LED hole horizontally.
  • Offset Y LED Hole (offsetYledHole): Adjust the Y offset to position the LED hole vertically.

Hanging Hole Option

  • Add Hanging Hole (addHangingHole): This option allows you to include a hanging hole in the light box. When set to true, it enables the creation of a keyhole-like shape for hanging the box on a wall.
  • Hanging Hole Large Radius (hangingHoleLargeRadius): Specifies the radius of the larger circle in the keyhole shape.
  • Hanging Hole Small Radius (hangingHoleSmallRadius): Sets the radius of the smaller circle in the keyhole shape.
  • Hanging Hole Height (hangingHoleHeight): Defines the total height of the keyhole shape.
  • Hanging Hole Height Offset (hangingHoleHeightOffset): Fine-tunes the vertical positioning of the hanging hole, allowing for precise placement.

Usage Instructions

IMPORTANT: Download the 3MF file to keep the colours in Bambu Studio

  1. Select the Mode: Choose between preview or print to set up the light box for design visualization or final production.
  2. Choose the Image Type: Decide whether to use an svg or png file for the lid design.
  3. Select the Shape Type: Choose between a ellipse or a rectangle using shapeType, depending on your preference.
  4. Set the Dimensions: Adjust the total height (lightboxHeight), wall thickness (wallThickness), base thickness (baseThickness), and lid thickness (lidThickness) according to your intended use.
  5. Customize the Image: Select an SVG or PNG image file (svgFile/pngFile) for the lid. Adjust the scale (svgScale/pngScale) and position (imageOffsetX, imageOffsetY), and for PNGs, determine the cut depth (pngCutDepth).
  6. Add Features: Decide whether to include an LED hole (ledHoleRadius) or a hanging hole (addHangingHole), and whether you want a frame (addFrame) around the box.
  7. Print and Assemble: Once everything is set up, print the components and assemble your customized light box.
