Description

This rocket is a modified version of my original design. This version can fly on an E12 motor or other similar diameter motors.

OpenRocket

I have attempted to fly this 3 times now and all 3 of my motors have CATO. This is sadly a common occurrence with the Estes E motors, you can get good batches and then terrible ones. I do not have verification if this rocket is safe to fly but, I can confirm that the motor never moved from where it was placed in the rocket, and they exploded about half a second after launching both leading into being motor failures. I will be purchasing more E motors soon and printing off a few more of these to hopefully get a non-CATO flight and update this with a verification of safety.

Build:

While the picture is not fully up to date, the build is similar. I have changed the glue points to be tiedowns. There is a rod through the middle of the rocket, you tie one end of the shock to this rod and then tie the other end through the hole in the nose of the rocket.

Motor Retention:

Masking tape is put around the front end of the motor. I found that one single pass around the motor is enough to hold it in firmly. I need to use plyers to remove it.

did the rocket launch fully? E motors have a pretty high failure rate. I have had 3 explode on me due to the motor failing. nothing much I can do about the print when that happens

does the engine’s exhaust damage/melt the rocket body? Also what hardware and software do you use to get the flight data?

For my smaller version on C motors the exhaust doesn’t affect it. I haven’t had a flight with this one yet to know. But based on the smaller version I would say no. (Please note I only print and fly with PAHT-CF, so I can’t speak on PLA) I just use openrocket to model these and get the flight estimates.

works great. even better if it had a way to attach nose to body, I might just not have read the info properly.
