Description
The Gyroid is not only a popular 3D printing Infill, it is also a very special mathematical surface.
Discovered in 1970 by NASA scientist Alan Schoen it is a member of the triply periodic minimal surfaces, meaning that as little material as possible is used to span the defined space. Gyroid appear abundantly in nature from proteins to the shimmering scales of butterflies.
Instead of hiding this miraculous structure inside of your models you can now proudly display it on your desk.
It can hold up to 19 pens and has even two positions to place small pliers or side cutters.
This is a complete redesign of my early Gyroid Pen Holder.
The orientation is carefully chosen to avoid the need for any support while providing the same overall storage capacity and aesthetic.
My original print profile leverages Variable Layer Height to save print time while making no compromise in print quality, especially in shallow areas.
