Description

This is a remix of the Mega Swatches solution by Josh-3D

Change Summary

  • Label indentation removed to allow use of any size labels (although i still use 12mm x 40mm niimbot labels myself)
  • Thickness increased to 4mm on swatches
  • 3 magnet holes (2mm x 10mm) added on reverse of swatches
  • Backplate piece provided to stick onto containers, AMS, dryer, etc. Backplate also has 3 x magnet hole

Use either 1 magnet (centre), 2 [recommended] (top and bottom holes) or 3 (all three holes), make sure to get the polarity right, the magnets are strong enough to pull through the plates so you want the backplates smooth side out, and the swatches magnet side towards the backplate.

I wanted a solution i could easily move the swatches from containers to the AMS, Dryer, etc, so i always knew where the filament was, i achieved this by taking Josh's design and added magnets and a backplate piece. The backplate piece goes onto the container, ams, etc, with double sided tape. The swatch is held to the backplate by magnets.

See the photos below for a better explanation.

  1. The Swatches (left) and Backplate (right) rear and front views, magnets are held in with a blob of superglue to extra strength

2. The next two photos show the containers (4 Litre Cereal containers) with one of the back plates held to the front using double sided tape, smooth side out. The other photo shows the plate in place.

3. The next photo shows the plates on the AMS, when i move a spool from the container to the AMS i also move the swatch.

4. Lastly i also placed four plates on the filament dryer to show the spools being dried.
