Description

In February 2020, I got my hands on the Milwaukee installation drill driver (FDDX, as it's called in Europe). Unfortunately, I've been a Festool guy ever since and have lots of Festool Centrotec accessories that I wanted to use. I also don't like the Milwaukee bit adapter - too heavy and the bits sit very wobbly.

I didn't have a 3D printer back in 2020, but I posted my first attempts of making Centrotec happen on the Milwaukee drill in FestoolOwnersGroup community on how to adapt the Festool Centrotec Chuck to the Milwaukee's M12 installation drill/driver by machining metal. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have the means to carry out this metalwork precisely enough.

Now I have made a new attempt, which in my opinion has some advantages over other attempts made so far (esp. in terms of weight and drill length). This is the main reason for sharing it with all of you.

The idea: Instead of printing any adapters (for example, as SirPrintsALot presents on printables.com) my approach is different. I dismantled the Centrotec drill chuck and completely redesigned the Centrotec metal shaft so that it can be easily replaced, fitting the M12 drill.

Here you can see my adapted CAD model for the metal shaft:

The result: An ultra-light Festool Centrotec drill chuck for Milwaukee M12 installation drill / FDDX with a very short design.

How to make use of it?

1.) Remove the snap ring of the Centrotec drill chuck (e.g. with two screwdrivers) and disassemble it into its individual parts. Be careful not to lose the steel balls!

2.) Insert the steel balls into the newly printed shaft.
3.) Reassemble the drill chuck. Step-by-step pictures as follows:

4.) Enjoy Centrotec on Milwaukee Drill!
