Description

Space Lamp - Lithophane

looking for a beautiful lamp in space design, I first started myself in modelling a base stand for the led lamp kit 001. This was the easy part of this 2 part challenge. More difficult was the creation of a round lamp shade as lithophane. ;)

For somebody who don't know what a Lithophane is:
A lithophane works by having varying thicknesses in its material, which allows different amounts of light to pass through when backlit. Thinner areas let more light through, appearing lighter, while thicker areas block more light, appearing darker, thus creating a detailed image.

I experienced a lot with maker programms and later on decided to use the free lithophane tool: https://tool.itslitho.com/
After the generation of several nice space images via Dall-E 3, I decided to do a round circular lamp shade with two different sides… so you can turn around the shade for the second beautiful scenery. As you can see the result is stunning *from my point of view* (impossible to catch the light effect with a photo)

..But to get there was anything else than easy, the data calculated and transformed was realy realy big (>than 500 MB), which causes several hungups in the applications and some headaches on my side.. but finally I succeeded an win my personal challenge..

Use the possibility to extract the stl from the *.3mf file (via bambu studio) if needed.
Direct print of the lithophane lamp shade is of course via makerworld possible. Enjoy…

(If somebody is interested in using the lithophane tool to create his/her own lamp shade, I can provide detailed instructions about my settings and help in creation if needed)
