Description

A good friend of mine had a Star Trek Themed wedding. I decided to design a Baldric based upon the one Worf wore in TNG. It is made up primarily of the rings and loops. The loops have an opening that allows the rings to be connected to them. The one that I made was 5 rings wide. This allowed for 4 rows of ribbon to be weaved through it. The ribbon I used was 7/8 inches. The badges are mounted to the solid rows with pegs with magnets glued on the the pegs and the badges. Additionally, I added several solid rows throughout in order to help maintain shape. When assembling, I found that it was faster to assemble the rows first and then attach them together. I also found that once the ribbon was woven, the entire thing became much shorter. The ends of the ribbon are tied around the openings in the solid rows and then I put some super glue on the knots to prevent them from coming apart. Finally, to get it to sit properly, I tapered one end before connecting them together.

When printing, I just printed sheets of rings and loops. On my ender 3, I was able to print about 80 of each part at a time. I didn't count how many I printed but I believe that 2 rows are about equivalent to 1.5 in in length. I used a tape measure to measure around my body to guess about how long I needed it to be. When done without the ribbon, it looked too long, so I shortened it, but after I added the ribbon it was too short. I printed the entire thing in silver PLA.

Let me know if you have any questions about assembly, and I will try to help.
