Description

The Ultimate Cannon

This project was inspired by other historical 3d-models of cannon's which were nice to look at but has no real functions.
I changed that and it took a lot of effort to play around with filament and modelling to create an own full working version of a shooting trigger.

Load the cannon with your finger and put a rock (two of them will be also automatically printed for you) into it. Pressing the trigger will release the tension and the rock will be catapulted out.  and..  BOOM   ;)

Initially there are 2 Versions for diff. Nozzel Types (0.4 mm and 0.2 mm) which will print the model in different sizes:

-→ The Big one (0,4 er Nozzle) will shoot ca. 5 meter
-→ The cute Version (0,2 er Nozzle) has a range of 3 meter       (this is my favorite one)

Both versions will be printable on one pate < 4h, no glue is necessary and the wheels are easy attachable to the cannon via a splint.

IMPORTANT HINT:  Please use the "BASIC" PLA Filament from BambuLab, the range is much better than using the "MATT" version, experiments with filament of other companies was also successful.. but I will definitely recommend the Basic Bambulab.
==> Please write in the comments which type of filament works best for you.. thank you

Cute/neat concept, but the cannon fires itself and intermittently jams. I used Basic PLA from BambuLab to print this model. Upon pushing the piston back, it didn't return when the button was pressed, like it was stuck on something. After pressing the piston in further a few times, it dislodged and now has trouble snapping (and staying snapped) into place to hold the cannon when pushed in. If I don't press the button within a couple of seconds, assuming it isn't jammed, it now shoots on its own.

hmm, sounds for me if there was something broken from the trigger mechanism inside the cannon. not easy to fix, if you try to reprint use the "slow" setting for cleaner results. would be interesting if other have the same problems. my small versions still work after lots of shoots..

Thank you for the response! I will give it another print and see if it works. :) PS- I updated my comment, as I accidentally rated 3 stars instead of 4. Also, I was limited by word count in the initial rating, but this is an amazing concept!

@micmey78 hey, sorry but can you clarify what the slow setting is? I've looked through Bambu studio settings and tried googling but wasn't sure. (I'm pretty new to 3d printing still) I noticed the piston seems to be stuck on the plate after printing, so it may just be that more caution is needed during removal..? I did try a 2nd time and had the same issue.

EZ Print, easy assembly. So much fun. Great family fun. Set up a few red solo cups to either knock over or try to land in. It looks great too! Thanks for a lot of fun.

Do I need to enable supports.

no.. without support, but I recommend to use my print profile as there are a lot more special options to get that cannon printed correctly (e.g. no infill / layer thicknese.. etc)
