Description

The Design

Here's an improved version of the mini vortex thread i previously designed. This is Version 2

The top on this version is a bit shorter so let me know if this is an issue or a benefit.

The “male” part of the thread seems to defy physics by passing through the slightly larger “female” Part

This is a fun piece and can be used as a fidget toy as well

Dimensions are approximately: diameter 32mm x 54mm

Let me know if you experience any issues.

If you enjoy this print consider giving it a boost (It'd really help me out!)

Printing

Standard settings should work fine to slice.

Once printed let the build plate cool before trying to remove.

My Work

After many years in Engineering, I've just decided to try and follow my childhood dream of becoming of a Creative Designer.

A Creative Designer of what? No idea! Right now I really like puzzles, mechanisms and kinetic sculptures so that's where I'm going to focus my efforts.

Boosts really help me out

To support me even more (not ever required), for information around development of my models (background to come) and for commercial use, i've started a patreon here:

What happened to the full size version? I printed it and loved it but wanted a different color combo and it was taken down… any likelyhood of publishing the model again?

Excuse previous rating, as Bambu Lab inadvertently asked me to rate a print that didn't go so well and basically flooded my print head, but attached this Brilliant maker to said job on the plate picture. I have made 6 of these now. But as soon as I show them to my friends or staff I never see em again. Well worth making as its fun to see people not understand the physics behind it and think its magic or trickery and I've got metallic filament coming very soon, so probably gonna lose a few more.

Hey, I'm not sure what you were printing here but it doesn't look like one of my models?

I can only apologise to you mate. I walked into workshop, had a WTF moment. Bambu A1 stated job was done, which should've been the last job in its history. When I checked on PC it asked me to rate job. I am so sorry for said rating, and though I wasn't scathing in any way it could reflect poorly towards you, but in my defence it did come up after the job was finished with the print plate of that job. Am pretty new to 3D printing 1 week or so, though am fluent using lasers and have a workshop wh

No Problem at all. I had a print like that last week and i totally understand the frustration. Hope you've manage to get it sorted or at least a plan to get it sorted

I was excited to try this. Sadly, mine definitely didn't slip through each other I jammed it together finally, but it wouldn't loosen up or come undone. A bit disappointing. I first tried the original larger size one, and I reduced the size so I thought that might be the issue. Good idea though

Hey, can you try some different filaments? Or try recalibrating the filaments. The tolerances should be smooth, not loose or tight, if one of the filaments over extrudes at all it can be too tight. Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Also, just an observation, the inner looks scaled compare to the outer, just double check they are the same scale

Printed perfectly, no issues at all on A1 Mini. Very fun to fidget with! As you can see from the pic, my cat Fanta approves too!

No prob! I just printed a second one in a silk filament, because it really does look cooler if the pieces are two different colors... so now I have two sets that look awesome!
