overall a nice profile, the supports were a little too close for my taste

Creative, well done! If you want to take it to the next level, make the cast out of silicone for the eye and use casting resin to make it look realistic :) Time consuming, but the end result would probably be soooo satisfying. I don't remember who it was, but the design, casting process and instructions can be found on instructables.
