Customization Options

Here's a detailed explanation of each parameter to help you customize your organizer effectively:

Compartments (appears last in the customizer, but the most important)

Compartments_Columns_Widths: Specify the widths of the columns in the organizer. You can define up to 10 column widths (e.g., [40, 40, 40, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0] creates three columns, each 40 mm wide). At least one column width must be set to create an organizer.

Compartments_Rows_Depths: Specify the depths of the rows in the organizer. You can define up to 10 row depths (e.g., [40, 40, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0] creates two rows, each 40 mm deep). At least one row depth must be set to create an organizer.

Style and Performance

Generate_Style: Choose between two styles:

  • Simple-Faster: Straight edges (faster rendering).
  • Rounded-Slower: Rounded edges for a smoother look (slower rendering).

Generate_With_Cutouts: Select the type of cutouts for aesthetic appeal and material efficiency:

  • None-Faster: No cutouts (faster rendering).
  • Hex-Slower: Hexagonal cutouts, more stylish (slower rendering).

Tray_Cutouts_Size: Define the size of the hexagonal cutouts .

Tray_Cutouts_Distance: Set the distance between the hexagonal cutouts.

Tray_Connector_Type: Choose the type of connector for the organizer:

  • HSW Plug Into Insert Hole - 13.2 mm: Add connectors to fit into the Honeycomb Storage Wall.
  • IKEA Skadis Pegboard System - 4.7mm: Add connectors to fit into IKEA Skadis Board.
  • Multiboard Push-Fit - 13.5mm-13.22mm: Add connectors to fit into Multiboard.
  • No Connector - Standard Tray: To generate a standard organizer without connectors

Tray Dimensions

Tray_Inner_Height: Adjust the inner height of the organizer.

Tray_Back_Extension_Height: Adjust the height of the back extension above organizer height.

Tray_Back_Thickness: Set the thickness of the organizer's back.

Tray_Sides_Thickness: Set the thickness of the organizer's sides.

Tray_Separators_Thickness: Set the thickness of the separators within the organizer.

Tray_Bottom_Thickness: Define the thickness of the organizer's bottom. Setting the bottom thickness to 0 allows for an organizer without a bottom, which can be useful for specific purposes like a pliers holder.

Tray_Corners_Radius: Set the radius for the organizer's corners for rounded edges.

Honeycomb Storage Wall

HSW_Connector_Tolerance: Adjust the tolerance for the connectors to ensure a perfect fit with the Honeycomb Storage Wall. This value is reduced from the distance between the facing faces of the hexagonal connector. Use negative values to increase the connector size and positive values to reduce it.

IKEA Skadis Board

SKADIS_Connector_Diameter_Tolerance: Adjust the tolerance for the diameter of the connectors to fit the IKEA Skadis board. This value is subtracted from the connector's diameter, primarily affecting its width.

SKADIS_Connector_Depth_Tolerance: Modify the tolerance for the depth of the connector slot. This value is added to the slot depth, ensuring a proper fit on the board.

Multiboard

MB_Connector_Tolerance: Adjust the tolerance for the connectors to ensure a perfect fit with Multiboard. This value is reduced from the distance between the facing faces of the hexagonal connector. Use negative values to increase the connector size and positive values to reduce it.

Here are some useful tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your customizable organizer:

 

Bottomless Tray for Tool Hanging

  • By setting the Tray_Bottom_Thickness to zero, you can create an organizer without a bottom. This is particularly useful for hanging various tools like pliers and scissors, providing easy access and efficient storage. Useful mostly when using with Honeycomb Storage Wall.

Standard Tray Without Connectors

  • If you set the Tray_Connector_Type to "No Connector - Standard Tray" the generated organizer is a standard organizer without connectors. This makes it versatile for general use, allowing you to place it anywhere without needing the Honeycomb Storage Wall.

Creating a Separators Grid

  • You can generate only a separators grid by setting the Tray_Bottom_Thickness, Tray_Back_Thickness, and Tray_Sides_Thickness to zero and setting the  Tray_Connectors_Type to “No Connectors - Standard Tray” . This separators  grid can be placed into compartments of a pre-made organizer to further subdivide a compartment and crete a more complex compartment configurations. Remember to calculate the exact sizes for the compartments and separators considering separators thickness and leaving some clearance to ensure a sung yet easy to push fit.
  • Additionally, you can set the bottom thickness to a non-zero value, which allows you to add a set of parallel separators. See example in model's photos.

Building Complex Configuration Trays

  • You can create a complex configuration organizer by first building the main organizer and then generating several separators setups (grid, or just a set of separators). Combine these parts in your slicer to assemble them into a single object. If you maintain consistency in sizes between the generated parts, you can typically move the parts along one axis using precise numbers when moving the separators parts and then manually adjust the other axis for a good fit.

Printing Instructions

To ensure successful printing of your customizable organizer for the Honeycomb Storage Wall, please follow these important instructions:

 

Supports for HSW Connectors: When printing, use supports if there are multiple rows of connectors. It's crucial to use manual tree supports to avoid unnecessary supports inside the hexagons. This helps in maintaining the integrity and aesthetics of the organizer.

Supports Coloring Bottom of Top Plugs: To facilitate support removal, use the “fill” option with “smart fill angle” to 0 (Bambu Studio/Orca) in your slicer software to color the bottom of the top plugs.. This ensures that supports adhere properly during printing and can be cleanly removed afterward.

Post-Printing Care: After printing, carefully clean or sand the bottom faces of the connectors where supports were attached. This step ensures a smooth and professional finish, ready for assembly with the Honeycomb Storage Wall.

 

When using IKEA Skadis connectors, supports are required. However, these connectors do not need any special handling, and the default supports in your slicer will work fine.

This profile consists of five small test parts, each with two connectors and varying clearance settings (-0.2, -0.1, 0, 0.1, 0.2). Print and test these parts outside the HSW to prevent them from becoming stuck on the wall.
