Description
Molecular Model Kit
Having had difficulties in finding the right Molecular Model Kit print files, I decided to draw my own. Of particular importance to me was the ability to represent different Carbon-Carbon bonds by TPU links.
As a result, the files in this model contain the most commonly used atoms and two different length links. While the atoms can be printed from PLA, PETG or pretty much any material capable of minor and modest overhangs, the links require a high flexibility material such as TPU.
While it is absolutely possible to print these models in the quantities to exactly fit your own molecule build wish, it is impossible for me to predict this. So please feel free to put together your build plates to suit your needs. As an example, I provide two plates to print out the repeating core of the PLA-molecule (PLA Atoms (C3H4O2)n) as pictured. To make the chain, print repeatedly and connect.
Update 05 Feb 2025: Due to user reports on difficulties with the deliberately very tight fit of the connectors, I have updated the print profile to also include scaled connectors with an easier fit. For straight and only slightly bent connectors, the “Normal Fit” is recommended. For bent bonds, such as SP², it may become neccessary to use the “Tight Fit”.
