Description

Tired of the lighting in your P1x series printer? I mean it sure it works, but in my opinion it's not in the greatest of locations.

So I set out on my journey to relocate the LED.

  1. Removed the existing LED housing at which point I realized I could reuse it due to the elongated piece that sticks out on one end.
  2. Found, and printed, the P1P LED housing/diffuser, making progress!
  3. Attempted to relocate the LED wires only to find it was pinched between the frame and side of the printer.
    1. Disassembled way too much (probably) of the printer to release the wire and pulled it through the frame. SUCCESS!
  4. Assembled the LED using the newly printed housing.
  5. Attached said housing to the frame beside the USB port using double-sided sticky tape, because why not?
    1. LED light works, but angle sucks, only top part of the chamber was illuminated. FAIL
  6. Redesigned the LED housing to add a downward angle of 25 degrees, if I recall.
  7. Printed, tested, success!
    1. Mostly that is, after a few long prints the double-sided sticky tape warmed up, the LED fell into the chamber and was being whipped around like a wet noodle and completely demolished my current print.
  8. Made some modifications to the housing and added 4 6x3 magnets!
    1. It isn't going anywhere now!

If you've managed to sit through that, I applaud you.

I don't have any pictures of the lighting with the LED in the original location, but if you're still here then you already know what it looks like. I do however have some examples to show of what it looks like now.

Dark and gloomy (yes I know the lights are on in the room, just go with it).

Let there be light!

Using the printers own camera, LED off, skeeery dark in there.

Not so dark!

Using my Wyze Cam mounted to the door with my 30-degree down angle mount, no LED.

What a difference!

And with that, the show is over. If you're still here you might as well download it and give it a shot, right?
