Description

A light-weight microphone shock mount replacement for RODE NT1/NT1A, or other RODE microphones. The original SM6 shock mount is too heavy for most of arms, so one can print this one to instead, for losing weight about 500g.

This mount is designed and tested on RODE NT1, but other RODE microphone with a same mechanical shape will also fit, such as NT2, NT1000, K2. Other brands may also fit if the bottom threads are in 20mm diameter and 0.8mm pitch. One can adjust the model to make it suitable for any other microphone, as long as the max microphone body diameter is equal or less than 50mm.

One may notice the photo of the finished model is slightly different from the model provided. I adjusted some details of the original model to further cut down the weight, and those details didn't affect the main functionality. The key parameters of the model have already been tested and kept unchanged.

For the pop filter in the picture, the model is designed for the original RODE SM6 mount's filter. If one have a RODE SM6, one can directly move the filter to the model. If one doesn't have RODE SM6, one may modify the model to fit any pop filter at one's will.

The adapter is designed for 3/8' thread, if one need other mount thread, other adapters can be printed seperately.

To complete the mount, one should prepare for the following parts:

  1. a pair of M6 screw and nut.
  2. 8 silicon O-ring. The recommended size is 14/20mm, which means the silicon wire in 3mm diameter and the total ring diameter in 20mm. One can change the material and size of the O-ring to adjust the force that keeps the microphone steady.

Follow this illustration to install the O-rings. There are 4 pairs of mount points, each pair uses 2 O-rings to fix:

Use auto positioning and arrangement, and the standard 0.2mm profile to print. No special setting needed. Both PETG and PLA are acceptable but PETG is suggested.
