Description

A neighbourhood cat was getting caught out in the rain so I decided to buy it a little shelter, but unfortunately the large door still let rain blow inside. This awning helps to reduce that. I purchased the Fido & Fletch pet home from Bunnings in Australia but the model looks to be available across NZ as well. Note that this is for the small version, as the home comes in medium and large versions as well.

The model comes in two different versions to suit different sized printers:

  • Single whole piece version - requires a large printer as it measures 333 mm x 333 mm x 150 mm (X x Y x Z)
  • Two-piece dovetail joint version - fits most printers (240 mm x 150 mm x 176 mm)

Print instructions:

  • Material: ABS, ASA or PETG for temperature resistance if the home will be exposed to the sun
  • Print as orientated to avoid supports
    • Dovetail version has the side walls on the bed for better adhesion
  • Consider using a brim to minimise warping

Assembly instructions:

  • Slide the dovetail pieces into each other. Be careful to avoid levering as that may snap the joint
  • Consider adhering the dovetail joint with glue or melting the edges together with a soldering iron (see below)
  • Stack two layers of double sided tape along the back side of the print (see below)
  • Line up the central point with the centre of the pet home
  • Press the model tightly against the pet home so that it adheres

Where to apply double sided tape:
