I made some sturdy VFLATs for my photo studio from thick Styrofoam boards and 3d printed parts without using any tape – LOL. They came out great!
The folding screen hinges are for 30mm thick Styrofoam boards. Thinner Styrofoam boards with 2 meters in length would be too wobbly. And yes the d=4mm x 40mm long wood screws hold pretty well in “quality” foam boards. I did a test prior to starting this project and was surprised how well they hold. I also use 5 screws on each side of the hinge in case I'm a little rough with the VFLATs.
