Print and post one to raise awareness and raise funds! See below.

Small prints with big meaning.

Models are posted for free, however please see the "Donate" message below.

I made these keychains for my high school students during our annual Yellow Ribbon Week promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention awareness. While sharing the significance of the week both generally and personally, I had students randomly select their own keychain which they placed with gratitude on their keys, backpacks, pencil bags, and more.

Please read my article at 3DWithUs for more about this special project.

Print in any color that brings you joy!

Donate

Rather than paying for the models, please consider making a contribution to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (or another organization) of $4.00 or whatever amount you feel appropriate and are comfortable offering.

Please donate directly to AFSP or your preferred organization.

Social Media Matching Donations

The matching donations for the fundraising campaign with this project has ended. Throughout November 2022, we were able to count 126 individual people posting prints of the keychains on Twitter, Instagram, Cults3D, and Printables. In addition to our planned contribution to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, my family contributed $2 to AFSP for each person posting. Also, the following companies made contributions of $1000 each. With other various contributions we noted throughout the campaign, the 3D printing community raised over $5000 through the keychain project for AFSP. Wow!

Words have Power

Models included for 10 words: ASPIRE, BELIEVE, CREATE, DREAM, EXPLORE, HOPE, RESOLVE, SMILE, STRIVE, WISH. Dual extrusion looks great, but they could print in one color with raised letters or print only the bases for an embossed look. With a two-color printing setup, they may also be printed flat since the letters are embedded in the model. Or print the bottom 1.5 mm in one color and then the rest of the base in a top color.

Also included are STL files for all 10 grouped together for an easy setup of the entire collection.

See photos for examples.

3D Print Settings

My prints as shown are in Printed Solid PLA "Yellow Bird" and "Deep Purple."

Each keychain is approximately 74 x 16 x 4 mm with raised letters (or 3 mm high with flat or recessed letters). Also included are STL files for all 10 keychains (bases and letters) organized for a quick setup for printing them all together. The xy-dimensions for the models of all 10 together are 151.5 x 92 mm.

When the models are aligned, the words are embedded in the base. I find this makes more durable prints for items like keychains. It helps prevent the letters from getting knocked off.

For flat, two-color prints, stop the print at 3 mm so the letters end at the same height as the base. Another idea is to print the layers in colors with only the base models. Check out this make by Max Funkner as an example. Great idea, Max!

I printed with 0.25 mm layer height using 3 top and bottom layers. I set 30% infill for the base and 50% infill for the letters. One perimeter works well for outlining the letters at the top of the base and the letter models, but I did use two perimeters for the bottom layer to help with bed adhesion. No support. No raft.

Box for 20 Included

I designed a simple box that holds 20 keychains (with rings) comfortably. The box bottom is 85 x 85 x 65 mm and the lid is 88 x 88 x 25 mm. These are the boxes in the photos above. I printed the boxes with 0.3 mm layer height, 3 perimeters, and 3 top and bottom layers. The walls, base, and top are all 1 mm thick. (MK3S .gcode available in files for one box or two box setups.)
