I do like Lonelslander's original design, with a 30 degree fan angle it optimizes air flow more directly towards the mainboard.
But I came across 2 major issues printing his fan holder:
- Screw holes misplaced a little bit, so I can't installed it at all.
- 3 arms for mounting fan are slightly unfit (I'm using Noctua 4020 fan), it didn't hold the fan tight enough as it supposed to.
*UPDATE: Lonelslander has already correct the placement issue with his v2 original design.
Maybe it is only my individual case. Anyways I make my modification.
- The location of mounting screw holes are fixed, now it can be installed properly
- Thickened 2 mounting hole cylinders a little bit to make sure it can hold the screw torque
- Deleted 3 fan mounting arms and make 4 screw holes for M3 screws. I trust screws more after all. I assume the original design is perfect for fast mounting, minimize mounting materials. But I can't risk any possible vibrations.
- Thickened fan mounting plate for more structural strength (especially for screw torque)
So here it is. I still highly recommend this design over other vertical designs.
