New Toy Models for More Fun and Utility

My kids wanted more variety, so I got to work and came up with a few new designs. When I finished, my daughter had some new ideas for how to play with them. These models are not only fun but also have some interesting practical uses. I like to use them to use up the last few grams of filament, and they serve as a good indicator of how different filaments behave.

Material and Experience

I have now tried these little things in various materials from different manufacturers and must clearly say, If you're aiming to break your jump record, I recommend Sunlu's PLA. However, I must note that the support and skirt were a bit more challenging to remove. My experience with Bambu's PLA is that the support and skirt come off easily, but the models are less durable and have less power when jumping. The support can be a bit harder to remove with some filaments. As previously mentioned, I had virtually no problems with Bambu's PLA and PETG. I recommend using needle-nose pliers and possibly a scalpel to remove any unsightly areas for easier handling.

Usage:

As seen in the GIFs, with a little practice, a well-controlled jump is possible. You just need to try different pressure points and angles. I have to admit that it's really fun to watch how they jump differently depending on how you press them.

Models for Playing

I have designed three models for playing, two spiders and a grasshopper. The fun lies in the fact that they jump away when you press their rear end with your finger. Various games can be played with these little things.

Models

  • Battle Spider Jumpster : Design of a jumping spider
  • Battle Spider Arachnight : Design of a banana spider
  • Battle Hopper Flip

All three jump in their own slightly different, yet similar, ways.

Game Rules

Long Jump

  • Objective: Who can jump the farthest?
  • Game Play: Each player presses the rear end of their model to make it jump. The distance of the jump is measured and compared.

Landing on Feet

  • Objective: Who lands on their feet most often?
  • Game Play: Each player makes their model jump. Points are awarded for each landing on the feet.

Bowl Jump

  • Objective: Who can make their model jump into a bowl or similar target?
  • Game Play: A bowl is placed at a distance. Players must try to make their models jump into the bowl.

These new toy models not only offer entertainment but also practical use as filament testers and for using up leftover filament.
