Blocks with slots to store cooking knives often have one wider rectangular hole intended for a pair of kitchen shears. I have little use for kitchen shears and would prefer to keep them in a drawer and store another knife in that hole. But the hole is too big and the knife tends to slide down into it.

This model partly fills the hole, making it narrower in the smaller dimension without reducing the wider dimension.
