This work is inspired by the great work of DocLex https://makerworld.com/en/@DocLex
I have a friend and she is obsessed with owls, so I tough I can make this special pet for her, I'm pretty sure this is a owls-themed thing she doesn't already have.
Remember that you will need to print a “neck” piece, you can print one from the models of DocLex or use my Toilet Pets fix for smaller toilet paper centers https://makerworld.com/en/models/461597#profileId-370343 that solves problem of attaching to toilet paper rolls with small centers. |
I'm not a 3D modeller, so here's how I've got up with this model.
I started drawing a vector idea in 2D using the mirror mode of Affinity Designer 2. You will not believe how many hours I needed to get to this version, I had to solve a lot of small problems, e. g. too far legs and this doesn't look as a owl, to near and it would not stand.
After I was satisfied of the result I exported this colourles as SVG and imported it into Autodesk Fusion 360 where I started building a 3D version from it. Here I discovered that SVG is not intended the same in the two programs so I had to come back, make other modifications, then export again and retry over and over until I got a version which satisfied my needs.
I started the Fusion project over at least four times because I got to a point where going forward in that way was to expensive so every time I made good use of what I learned and the final version was perfect… or almost. Unfortunately once printed this was to small and so I had to create a larger version of it.
Now I'm fully satisfied of it.
And I'm happy to have learned a lot of things in two programs I don't dominate… yet.
