Description

*** UPDATE 06/20/24 - [v3] Supports Version***

If you are having issues with the tab breaking off or not connecting during printing, please try the “Supports Version”. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND modifying the profile to use supports setting that you are comfortable with and know work for you.

____________________________________________________

My buddy asked me to design him a tiny trailer hitch as a gag gift. You know what they say, the bigger the truck, the smaller the trailer hitch!

I uploaded two different size hitches (Tiny & Micro) for both 2in (51.2mm) & 2.5in (63.9mm) receivers. (* I added a 1.25" version, but it's still in the testing phase. If you try it, please let me know what changes need to be made*) I also uploaded a version if you would like to use an existing pin.

In my area, 2 inch receivers seem to be the most common, but it's best to measure which size you need before printing. See below image.

Locks into place with a latch tab button, so it can be easily installed and removed.

The pin version and all other 3mf files can be found in the “Raw Model Files”:

I highly recommend you Superglue the ball to the hitch (you have no choice for the micro version), because it may come loose over time.

Recommended:

  • Use a filament that is suitable for outdoor use, such as ASA (I'm using PETG but not sure how prolonged outdoor use will affect it)
  • Minimum of 4 wall loops
  • 15% Infill
  • Superglue ball to hitch

!! IMPORTANT !!:

CLEAN YOUR PRINT BED BEFORE PRINTING. Yes, I'm sure you think it is clean enough because you just cleaned it a few weeks ago, but it probably isn't. The latch tab requires really good adhesion while printing. If you are having issues where the tab is breaking off while printing, try cleaning the bed to see if it helps. This may not be the reason why the print is failing, but it's a good start.

If you need a different size receiver or latch button, please let me know, I will gladly make the appropriate changes and upload them for you!

Disclaimer:

This trailer hitch is a NOVELTY ITEM!!! It is not designed to actually work, so please don't give me a crappy rating because you were not able to hook up your trailer to it.

I've only installed it so far. Haven't tried to remove it yet but it seems like it printed well enough that it shouldn't break.

dude, this is hilarious and I absolutely love it! the button broke off on mine but I'm almost certain it was due adhesion on my end. nothing some glue can't fix! I'm definitely going to print another one for my van!

Thank you for the 5 stars and for the boost!!! Do you happen to know if it was actually Version 3 that you printed? Its the one with the wider tab. It's hard to tell, because I've been updating the original profiles.

you're welcome! I just thought it was so funny and silly and I just fell in love with it! but yes, it was the one with the wider tab. when it finished printing, the tab had actually fallen off the build plate and was laying on the table. I didn't even look like it ever even started to attach at the top. so I'm almost certain it just got knocked off

Thank you for the info!! Someone else told, once his printer gets to the top of the tab, his printer stops and moves off the print. Then it does some kind of weird homing on the side of the build plate, whenever it tries to come back to printing the tab, THATS when the tab gets knocked off the bed.

This thing is hilarious. I'll be covertly placing this onto my brothers truck. My threads were a little tight and hard getting started but I'm fairly certain it's my printer. I printed it in PETG due to it being and outside piece.
