Description

This is a set of numbers and class insignia that are designed to fit the IOM RC sailboat. They may be suitable for other classes as well. You can re-scale them as you see fit, but be aware that they may no longer fit the IOM specifications if you do.

There are 3D numbers and insignia ready for printing. They are saved as one STL file. To separate them, use your CAD software to split the disjointed mesh into each separate piece. Once printed you can tape them together into whatever configuration you need. Make sure to allow room for a 1 to be placed in front of your number in case of a duplicate at the regatta

There are different formats of 2D numbers with bounding boxes around them to help with spacing and alignment.

You can use the DXF in your CAD software to use as a base to customize and extrude into your own templates for tracing with a marker.

You can use the SVG files as cut template files with your vinyl cutter.

You can print the PDF file to use as templates for tracing from underneath the sail if it is somewhat transparent.

These files are set up to meet the sizing standards for the IOM class of sailboat. They are drawn in the normal Helvetica font. There are connector bars drawn as well for numbers such as zero, which require two parts that should be held together for stencils or extrusions.

The bounding boxes around the numbering meets the minimum spacing requirements between individual numbers and vertical spacing as well.

There are four sets of info on the drawings and STL files:

  1. The tall set of numbers is 105mm and is suitable for A and B rigs on the IOM.
  2. The shorter set of numbers is 85mm and is suitable for the C rig on the IOM. You are allowed to use smaller numbers and tighter vertical spacing on these numbers due to the small size of the C-rig sail.
  3. The class insignia is minimal size for all sails.
  4. There is a template for the USA country code. It is suitable for all sails.

To mark on your sails you can use various means depending on the material your sails are made of. For most non-woven material, such as mylar, a black Sharpie brush tip marker is ideal, the ink flows on quite heavy and dark compared to a regular sharpie.
