Description

I liked the idea for the adjustable spool holder but wanted it to use 608 bearings and to be both easily adjustable and easily attached to the case I was building. I designed a new "soporte_eyes" that keeps the same spacing for attaching to the "parte_superior_graduable" but made sure it would fit 8mm (5/16") threaded rod. I also scaled the "maneta" part to 0.5 in the z axis and added two guides to it so that it would sit in the adjustable channel and could be loosened/tightened from underneath (which also doubles as the attachment for securing it to the top of my printer case). I've included all the files necessary to make the spool holder, even the one I didn't modify (except to rename).

Print Settings

Printer:

Monoprice Maker Select

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Notes:

Print one each of the Stationary Knob and Sliding Knob and two each of the Adjustable Base and Side Support.

Alternatively, if you don't want to adjust/attach the holder from underneath, you can print one each of the Stationary Knob, Adjustable Base, and the "parte\_interior\_graduable" from the source object along with two of my Side Support.

Shouldn't need any supports. All files can be printed in the default orientation except for the Sliding Knob (which should be printed with the two guides pointed up - which may or may not be upside down).

Post-Printing

Assembly

The Side Support attaches to the Adjustable Base pieces with two M3x18mm (#4x0.75in) screws and two nuts each. The adjustable slide pieces line up and are secured together with an M3 (#4) hex head screw that is 40mm + the thickness of the material the spool holder is sitting on (1/8" plexiglass in my case) and a nut. Lengths are approximate and there's a wide range of sizes that should work. You may have to sand the guide pieces of the sliding knob to make it slide easily.

The 608 bearings (4 of them) each need an 8mm (5/16") threaded rod that is at least 30mm (1 1/4") long with 2 washers (1 on either side of the bearing with an optional 3rd washer on the opposite side of the Side Support from the bearing) and 2 8mm (5/16") nuts (I wanted to use lock nuts but used 4 non-lock nuts instead because that is what I had). Any washer that is large enough to fit over the threaded rod but smaller than the outer part of the bearing will work.

How I Designed This

Everything was designed/modified in Sketch Up and run through netfabb after exporting from Sketch Up. I used Meshlab for a few intermediate drafts but ended up not using it in the end.
