Description

Well I made this spring ages ago to see what types of things will print without supports, but did nothing with it afterwards. With the Animal Contest requesting animal things that move, this came to mind as an easy way to use it! Use double sided tape to stick it anywhere or add a magnet inside the pre-cutout hole in the base to throw it on the fridge.

The profile is setup to print by object so you can make the spring and tail with two different materials easily. Plus, I have only ever printed the spring as a whole before, so I can't assure you that having the nozzle printing by layer and going back and forth between objects won't cause some issues. Basic PLA works great and prints nicely for the spring but the tail can be more decorative so you can use whatever you'd like. My main pictures were done with a natural/clear PLA for the spring and the Bambu blue/green dual silk for the tail. *If you are printing in an enclosed printer, this is the one time the AUX fan will be your friend. Remove your Warp Stop if are using it (and thank you if you are! :)) and let that air flow freely at the spring to help cool the layers. The open air printers should have no issues.

For assembly- there is a cutout on the side of the tail that will fit the spring. The very end of the spring can end up a little globby so you may need to trim a tiny bit to clean it up so it fits. You can orient the spring and tail depending whether you want a standing wiggler or horizontal wiggler (see my fridge photo). And that's it! The two parts fit tightly but you can glue if you'd like. You definitely need some sort of way to secure the base to your surface or it will just fall over when you try to wiggle it.
