R1 Release Notes

  1. ZTap probing will not work with the stock single lift Nema 14 configuration. The design has been tested successfully with dual and triple Z lifts using Nema 17 motors.
  2. ZTap requires a second MGN7H x 150mm Linear Rail to the X Gantry.
  3. The Tap PCB design can vary from different manufacturers. Please compare with the CAD file prior to assembly just in case anything requires tweaking.
  4. Hardware wise, I have painfully gone through the CAD to create the BOM quantities. I cannot guarantee that I have not made any mistakes with this. Therefore please check the CAD file if in doubt.
  5. Like all things Voron 0, some bits can be quite fiddly. Please expect significant dismantling to complete parts of these upgrades.
  6. The integrated lead screws of the Nema 17 motors (I used spares left over from a HEVO build) need trimming down to 175mm to clear the hot end Fan Cowling. Alternatively the skirt will require extending or spacing off to allow for longer lead screws. The lead screws are relatively easy to trim with a hacksaw.
  7. The ZTap parts rely on some bridging. I have provided integrated support\bridging helper to make this easier. The supports are turned off by default in the CAD.
  8. The insert parts to create vent details within the Rear & Base Panels are within sub groups & turned off by default. These will require exporting with the panel to your slicer, splitting & adjusting accordingly.
  9. I have used the two redundant 1515 Z axis rails has built mount supports. The original extrusions being too short for the current design.
  10. I have initially used a 3D printed solution for the new Z rail mounts to prove the design. The 3D printed versions are also less traumatic in affecting the existing stock frame assembly. Three new 1515x170mm extrusions will be a more visually elegant solution. However, to use the blind hole fixing method like the rest of the frame, considerable disassembly, may be required to create the wrench clearance holes. Matching 1515 extrusions to my original LDO kit are quite rare in my country. A LDO Motors v.02 top hat extension kit may be a cost effective solution for acquiring additional 1515 extrusions, they will require trimming to 170mm length to work. 11. Alternatively, adapting a Tri Zero belted solution with the ZTap may be the way: zruncho3d/tri-zero: Tri-Zero - a triple-belted-Z V0 mod (github.com)
  12. The original BTT E3 Mini will work with Dual Zeds but additional electronics will be required for a triple Z lift, Trident arrangement. I have used a BTT Manta M8P, CB1 with TMC2209 drivers for this build: BIGTREETECH Manta M4P/M8P Control Board running Klipper with core board CB1 or CM4 – Biqu Equipment
  13. I have included three different Fascia's for the ZTap. A basic stock occluded fascia to tidy the cables, a Knomi V2 standard fascia & an extended Knomi V2 fascia to allow greater space if all the feed cables are a little tight. The extended Knomi display collar will decrease the Y axis build volume by 2mm. The stock fascia & standard Knomi display collar are turned off by default in the CAD file.
  14. ZTap will reduce the Y axis build volume by approximately 2-3mm.
  15. The design of the extruder is quite tall, therefore it is recommended that the Top Hat be extended to provide greater clearance for the cable feeds & Bowden Tube. The Hinged Top Hat design in the published CAD file uses the 0.1 stock panels but increases the clearance height to 120mm.
