Description

This was a fun one for me. I started out by downloading UnimatrixRed’s model. Right as I was getting ready to start printing, I thought – I'll thread it (because I hate glue). That is the remix that never saw the light of day.... because of Google. Through googling pics, schematics, etc. – I started down a rabbit hole of Lightsaber geekdom and soon realized that I needed to build my own version all together.

So, what you have here is my creation. It is not perfect (probably never will be) and there are a handful of changes I may end up making down the road in version 2.

I need to give credit where credit is due. Unimatrix’s model is what started me down this path and I used his model for the overall hilt dimensions because it looks spot on (all his models do!) and you will see that a few parts are clearly inspired by his designs. I primarily used this YouTube video since it had the highest resolution images I could find: https://youtu.be/qpLkVCvjWqI?si=8j8lXo6_oAsQ2oKw ; so, credit goes to Dewy and Anakin Starkiller who designed the model in the video.

There are a few parts in my model that may seem unnecessary (namely the emitter grip section), but I built them to negate the need for supports as much as possible (at the cost of using up additional filament). This is especially important when using Silk PLA as it doesn’t lend itself to being sanded and smoothed very well.

Build Notes

Filament used:

Sunlu Silk Silver PLA

Sunlu Silk Gold PLA

Sunlu Silk White PLA

Overature Matte Black PLA

LovoOn Silk Gradient PLA: Red-Blue-Purple (I didn’t just have purple)

Print Setting:

Walls: 3

Infill: 20%

Layer Height: 0.15mm for main parts, 0.1 for the control knobs/buttons and pommel end cap. All parts printed with a 0.2mm initial layer.

The only part that will need support is the black grip insert (the 7 grooves); for me, I dropped the support infill to 10% to make removal easier.

I tried to make the 3 emitter LED’s (I used white silk filament because I didn’t have clear) and purple insert on the small brass knob press fit – but you may need a dab of glue depending on your filament and print settings.
