Description

Here is a Chess Set for clumsy gamers.

JUST ADDED a pocket size profile!!!! The only difference in the print is the bottom piece. The full size version has just a hole for a finger to release the board. The Pocket size version has a small lever that needs to be pushed to down position, to raise the board over the ledge so it can slide out. There are still 96 magnets holes which all fit one 2mmx4mm magnet each. I highly recommend the magnets for the small version. Its hard to play a game without them.

I have all the pauses required and all the holes for the magnets all set in the right places. The holes are meant to each hold one 2x4mm circle magnet with a little tolerance to achieve the satisfying click of a piece being moved on the board.

Be sure you have enough magnets. Its 64 squares, and 32 pieces. That totals 96 magnets required.

Also be sure to have a strategy for ensuring the correct polarity of the magnets. The bottom of the pieces should attract to the top of the board. Obviously.

Luckily the magnets attraction to the build plate is stronger that their attraction to the nozzle. So you don't have to worry about magnets coming out of there holes as the nozzle passes over.

The Supports on the bottom container need to be removed carefully and with some patience. However you don't need the Bottom Box to have a game of chess.

You also don't need to add magnets. Its just that I'm clumsy.

Amazing. printed with 0.2mm Nozzle and .06mm layer height. Scaled by 1.5. Each piece took between 19 and 27 hrs.

Thanks a lot! the pictures are beautiful. I love how the black transits the gold on a gradient in the gold square corners on the board.

This is a great model. I don‘t have black silk so I used sparkle gold and black with white marble. I managed to put 95 of the 96 magnets with the correct polarity, almost perfect 😊 Thanks!

A very nice print, no issues with the print files. To ensure correct magnet polarity placement, printed bottom half of a king piece with the magnet imbedded. Then used piece by placing a new magnet on the bottom, and during the pause, put it over each magnet hole and slid magnet into hole, repeating for each hole. Board slides and 'locks' into case for secure stowage and portability. It also rests on top of case for stable game play. Overall, a quality project and I would highly recommend.

Amazing print. The only thing I could ask for is a bigger printer so the board and pieces could be larger, but that isn't the fault of this model which is perfect.

printing this now, only just started with the board and noticed its printing a lot of gold? also I was wondering why it's not printed upside down to get the nicer textured surface from the plate?

Thanks for taking interest in my model. There were many options for surface of chess board, I simply like the Hilbert Curve tops as my personal choice. I’m not exactly sure what your question is about the gold filament. I recommend downloading the 3MF of multi-plate prints and assuring that your personal preferences are accounted for. Happy printing! Also, you can make a profile you like better and add it. You will get points if people like yours better.

the board has nearly finished printing (had to wait for the magnets to arrive). I can see why it's not upside down now. I thought the top layer was flush, but it's not, it's textured. I didnt know i could download the model and change settings, I thought if I got it from the app it comes pre setup and it is what it is. my question about the gold is I thought the bulk of the board was going to be black, I didn't expect the lower levels to be gold. it's not a problem as all the filament costs the same, I just wasn't expecting it.

finished printing everything. most of it came out really nice. the tops of the kings didn't work for me, but I can modify a fix for them. the box is really clever and I like the patterns built into them. the magnets adds a really satisfying clunk when they connect. all in all, a fantastic print.

This is incredible. I don't think enough people recognize the amount of work that must've gone into this. This is the next print hitting my build plate.

I lied a little. I tried getting to wild with the colors and filament types and messed up everything. Then I printed something else lol. I just a new printer, so there was no chance of me stopping to solve the problem. With that said, I have since solved the problem and will making something cool soon
