Description

Disclaimer: Bambu Lab specifically states We strongly avoid doing these mods, and instead, we recommend using external power methods for LED mods or other applications that need power to be implemented.” Read More Here

I wanted to put this disclaimer up front so everyone knows what they are getting into before doing this mod. You could damage your printer if you are careless or are not comfortable with electronics. No one is liable of any damage other than you, even if I made a mistake in the documentation. That said, if you see a mistake please let me know so I can correct it.

Lastly, this USBuffer mod is intended for LED strip lights only! Do not plug anything else into this USB port such as your phone, laptop, fans, chamber heaters, filament dryers, microwave, refrigerator, Tesla, etc. Even an LED strip that draws too much power could potentially fry your printer. What is “too much” of a power draw you ask? I have no idea and I don’t want to find out.

See documentation below for PDF with step by step instructions.

USBuffer - 5 Volt USB Output Filament Buffer

I wanted a super clean solution to power my LED riser light. I also wanted a little soldering project!

Required Parts:

*Adjustable Buck Converter: Amazon EU | Amazon US

*Female USB to DIP PCB: TEMU

Mini USB Voltmeter: Amazon EU | Amazon US | iFixit

*These two components must be these exact ones due to size requirements.

The wire, heat shrink, 1k resistor, etc. can be had anywhere.

STEP file is available.

Of course it's not necessary but if you want to add to my beer fund it would be much appreciated! 😄

This was my very first electronics project that involved actually soldering things. The instruction document was clear and easy to follow. Print was easy and looks awesome. It now provides power to my LED strip below my AMS riser. this is awesome!

I had to trim a little bit of that bottom curve as I wanted to run the wires from under the PCB. Everything else is great. thank you!

Wow that’s excellent! I was considering running the wire from underneath but for some reason decided on doing it from the top. Your way does look cleaner.

Very cool. I don’t recommend this for the use of peripherals like cameras but glad you had luck with it!
