Description

This is another in my series of Calibration models.

Have you ever wanted to visualise the layer height you are selecting? Do you even know you can choose a different layer height?

Problem

You wonder what different layer heights look like when printed, but, you have no way of knowing.

If there was only a way of seeing this, holding this, caressing this (easy now), placing them together and side-by-side.

Solution

The Layer Height - Feeler Gauge is a set of 6 gauges you can print in sets. Available in the following layer heights:

  • 0.08 - 0.08 to 1.44
  • 0.12 - 0.12 to 1.80
  • 0.16 - 0.16 to 1.92
  • 0.20 - 0.20 to 2.00
  • 0.24 - 0.24 to 2.16
  • 0.28 - 0.28 to 2.52

Each strip of each gauge includes the following information:

  • Layer height
  • The index number of this specific gauge strip
  • Height of this specific gauge strip

Numbers we're hard to see

Seriously, you understand they are hard to see right? This isn’t a failure of design or profile settings. Some are 0.08mm thin, the first one of each set has only a single layer of material to embed the same depth for the second colour. Are you seriously blaming me for physics? You knew what you were printing before you printed it, you saw the photos. All numbers are legible, albeit a little thin. Giving a rating of 3 is extremely confusing.

Thank you. It was inspired by someone asking to create one thing as a favour, but, I misunderstood exactly what they meant and this was born!
