Description

Hey 3D printing enthusiasts!

Check out this nifty LED Bar I've designed for the Bambu Lab A1 Mini printer. It’s a cool little project for anyone looking to add some custom lighting to their printing setup. With a 360-degree rotatable design, this LED bar lets you shine a light exactly where you need it, enhancing your visibility and adding a bit of flair to your prints.

You can use any LED strip you like—ARGB, RGB, you name it—making it super customizable. The bar itself is made from a standard EUROLIGHT AL-R2-B aluminum profile, which is not only sturdy but also great at dissipating heat.

Assembly Guide: DIY LED Bar for Bambu Lab A1 Mini

Required Materials and Tools:

  • 3D Printed Parts:
    • X Axis Mounting Bracket
    • Z Axis Mounting Bracket
    • Covering Ring (Left Side)
    • Covering Ring for JST Connectors (Right Side)
    • LED Bar Holder (Left Side)
    • LED Bar Holder with JST Connector (Right Side)
  • Hardware:
    • EUROLIGHT AL-R2-B Aluminum Profile
    • 4 x M5x12mm screws (Hex)
    • 10 x M5 washers
    • 2 x original M3x8mm screws from your Bambu Lab printer
  • Additional Components:
    • LED Strip (18-20 cm)
    • Cable (about 50 cm)
    • Female JST Connector
    • Male JST Connector
    • Power Supply (24V)
  • Tools:
    • Hex wrench or screwdriver compatible with M5 and M3 screws
    • Wire cutters and strippers
    • Soldering iron and solder
    • Electrical tape or heat-shrink tubing for insulation

Assembly Steps:

Printing LED Bar Holder Parts:

When printing the LED Bar Holder parts (both left and right sides), it's essential to ensure that M5 nuts are properly inserted into the parts during printing. Follow these steps to ensure successful printing:

  • Obtain 2xM5
  • Ensure the M5 nuts are clean and free from any debris.
  • Calculate the appropriate layer height at which to pause the print. As an example, if the layer height is 0.28mm, the pause layer should be set to 17. Pause the print just before the M5 nut hole closes. Carefully place an M5 nut into the recessed area on the LED Bar Holder part. Ensure the M5 nut is positioned correctly and securely in place. After inserting the M5 nut, resume the print.
  • The printer will continue the print process, encapsulating the M5 nut within the LED Bar Holder part.

Prepare 3D Printed Parts:

  • Print the X Axis Mounting Bracket and the Z Axis Mounting Bracket.
  • Print the Covering Ring (Left Side) and the Covering Ring for JST Connectors (Right Side).
  • Print the LED Bar Holder (Left Side) and the LED Bar Holder with JST Connector (Right Side).
  • Print X Axis CAP

Mount the X Axis Bracket:

  • Remove the original end cap with the poop chute mechanism from the X axis gantry.
  • Install the X Axis Mounting Bracket in place of the removed end cap, ensuring the poop chute mechanism is properly reattached.

Mount the Z Axis Bracket:

  • Use the original M3x8mm screws to attach the Z Axis Mounting Bracket to the designated attachment point on the printer.
  • Note: When unpacking the printer, there were originally 4 screws in this location. These screws were used to secure the Z axis in place during shipping.

Prepare LED Bar:

  • Cut the LED strip to a length of 18-20 cm.
  • Solder the female JST connector to one end of the cable.
  • Route the unsoldered end of the cable through the hole for JST connector in the LED Bar Holder with JST Connector (Right Side).

Assemble LED Bar:

  • Slide the LED aluminum profile (EUROLIGHT AL-R2-B) with the already installed LED strip into the LED Bar Holder with JST Connector.
  • Solder the LED strip to the cable.
  • Slide the Covering Ring for JST Connectors (Right Side) onto the LED aluminum profile and press on the LED holder part.
  • Slide the Covering Ring (Left Side) onto the LED aluminum profile.
  • Install the light diffusion strip onto the LED strip.
  • Press the LED Bar Holder part onto the aluminum profile and press the covering rings tight.

Mount LED Bar:

  • Take one washer and bolt, insert it into the mounting bracket hole for the LED bar.
  • On the other side of the holder, put on two more washers and screw the LED bar.
  • Repeat the process for the other side of the LED bar.

Power Connection:

  • Open the bottom lid of the printer to access the power supply with 24V output.
  • Install a 50 cm cable from the power supply to the LED strip, ensuring proper polarity.
  • Route the cable through the extruder cable sleeve until it reaches the end where the Z axis stepper motor starts.
  • Make a small hole in the extruder cable sleeve at this point to route the power cable for the LED strip.
  • Measure the exact length required to ensure the LED bar can rotate freely and the cable length is sufficient.
  • Install a male JST connector on the end of the cable.

Final Check:

  • Ensure all components are securely attached.
  • Test the LED strip to verify it lights up properly.

Keep in mind the warranty implications of modifying your printer. By following these steps, you'll successfully assemble your DIY LED Bar for the Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D printer. Enjoy the enhanced lighting for your printing projects!
