Description

Updated 20240526

Good news! Many people complained about the light leak issue of the shell printed by PLA-matte filaments. Now I designed a new LED holder that combined with a light hood, can prevent light leakage effectively, you just need to print the new LED holder part(LED Holder 3.1) to replace the old one, and then you can have a perfect light effect. Assembly Instructions and Print Profile updated as well. Thank you for your boosting and support.

This is a bird lamp designed for Bambu LED Lamp Kit 001(This link is Bambu store Global area), you can buy it from the “Bill of Materials” at the bottom of the page if you are not from the “Global” area, it's available in the Bambu Store worldwide.

Recommended filaments: Body: BambuLab PLA-CF (good at shading lights)or BambuLab PLA-matte( Vivid colors), you can also try other Bambu Filaments; The Joint parts must use TPU, I'm using BambuLab TPU95A HF in this case.

This model is original from my design in 2008(image below), at that time, it was hard for me to make it real in traditional ways, but now, I can do it with 3D printing:)

After 3 iterations and countless detail adjustments, I made this warm and lovely bird lamp finally. you can see some of the improvements in the images below.

(Modify the structure of the lamp holder to optimize the lighting effect)

(Modify the switch structure to avoid the impact of the support surface blocking switch travel, and covering the support surface)

(Elevate the overall height to achieve a more balanced proportion of the design)

Assembly Instructions:

The TPU Joint parts recommended printing infill is 80% to make it sturdy.

Printed at 0.2 but with adaptive layer height. Used the coloring from my local soccer team and added there logo in the black side cover. Looks like a tropical bird. Colors used are Bambu Labs matte lemon yellow, matte grass green, matte dark red, matte charcoal black and matte ivory white All worked like a charm. Great design! Sending a boost.

Printed a second one with fuzzy skin. This gives a different look and hides the layer lines. Seam is also less visible.

I have some issues with the seams (see picture of red parts, Bambu PLA matte). Printed with your original profile. One seam is already sanded a little bit though. But that doesn't look nice :-(

yes, the seam is an issue that can not be fixed so far, so I put all the seams on the backside of the shell parts, looking forward to seeing your final lamp.

although I still rate your design five stars I have two more issues. According to your pictures the infill pattern is not to be seen in the white diffuser. Printing from your profile with Bambulab’s white matte it is here. Also, when the light is on, it shines through the colored PLA and does not look good because of the shadows cast by solid parts inside the head. How did you solve that?

the first issue, I have a pattern too, because of the exposure setting, so in some pictures, the pattern is not clear, but my pattern is not the same as yours, maybe I didn't set the infill the same as I printed before, maybe infill 30%or40%. I think the pattern texture looks much more cool than just flat white.

Yes, the PLA basic and PLA matte will leak the lights out, but to me, it's acceptable, nice printing.

Maybe a black inner shell would help with the light leak if there is room for it. Printed in a 1 layer vase mode. But even so, it's a nice print!

There is no space left so far, the top shell size is strict to the size of the LED kit001, if enlarge it, the whole body need to change as well, so... let me think about it.

Has anyone printed this on the mini yet? Mine constantly end up like this after first layer.

Are you using PLA-Matte? I always has such issue when printing PLA-matte in A1mini,so now I never print it on A1mini

Printing it on the Mini. No problems so far but I used the smooth PEI sheet except for the TPU parts that I'm printing now. Bambu matte sticks really well on the smooth sheet. I also never used a brim and printed fine.

This is so incredibly awesome! It printed easily and assembled perfectly. I really liked mixing materials in a single project: PLA for the body, TPU for the joints, and PETG for the light shield. Using TPU for the internal joints is simply brilliant! Thanks for the excellent model!

Nice printing, thank you for sharing these beautiful images to us.

All of them are printed by PETG. The installation is quite simple, but my consumables are damp and the printing surface is bumpy

Awesome. I have some Clear filament coming tomorrow to reprint the lens with. PLA makes the light look yellowish.
