Description

I made this a while back when I couldn't find a place to buy the specific spring I needed for another build. I hope also you will find use of this.

Print settings:

15% infill, 2 walls, PLA

Usage:

  1. Attach the tip of a steel wire in the hole in the base, push it all the way through so that it doesn't escape for the next step.
  2. Bend the steel wire slightly around the hole. Now wind the wire tightly in the threaded grove all the way to the top.
  3. Cut the bottom of the steel wire with some plyers to release it from the hole.
  4. Get the spring of from the SpringMaker by gently screwing it upwards.
  5. Heat the spring until it is glowing red to release any tensions in the steel.
  6. Ready to use!

Notes:

The model creates spring which are about 12mm in diameter measured from the center of the wire. Scale it to your needs but mind that the hole at the bottom might need to be drilled to make the wire fit after scaling.

I used regular steel wire for this and they are surprisingly strong and hold their shape. Ideally you would want a special steel type for making springs.
