Intro

I have tried a few Gridfinity magnet jigs, and most of them work well. But when I'm done gluing/pressing, where do I put the jig? I have somehow lost more of these jigs than I have printed!

Why can't I store the jig in the very Gridfinity system that I have so lovingly assembled with it?

JIGFINITY lets you do just that. Glue ‘em, press ’em, stack ‘em, and store ’em. Simple.

JIGFINITY is an all-in-one Gridfinity Baseplate AND Bin magnet jig.

JIGFINITY is, itself, a 2u Gridfinity bin, so when you are done using it, you can stack them compactly in your gridfinity system.

JIGFINITY features a “holdy-hole” for easy removal of the magnet-holder to ensure your magnets stay put.

Printing

Components

Jigfinity prints in three small parts: bin-jig, base-jig, and magnet-holder. Print two (or more) of each for ultimate stackability!

Tips & Customization

  • The magnet holes in the model are set to 6.15mm. This size worked great for a snug fit on my Bambu Lab P1S in Elegoo PLA Black* and Bambu PLA Basic Orange with these magnets*. You may get a different fit.
  • I would recommend using some kind of support material for the base jig, as the little magnet lifters don't print great without it. I used Bambu's PLA Support in my AMS. If you don't have an AMS you can always pause the print and manually change materials for the one support layer.
  • Alongside the STL, I've included the full Bambu Slicer profile and the original Solidworks file to edit as needed. The Solidworks file is based on EllieWhoMakes's parametric Gridfinity bin model.

Assembly

Materials:

Method 1: Using an existing Gridfinity magnet base or bin. This method may NOT be recommended if you are particularly messy with super glue.

Method 2: Using another Jigfinity. This method is recommended if you are particularly messy with super glue.

Method 3: Using this Gridfinity Magnet Jig by Jools, if you already have one. This method is recommended if you are particularly messy with super glue and already have one of these jigs.

Method 4: Without a jig. This method is only recommended don't have any existing Gridfinity items with magnets. Just be careful to install the magnets all in the same polarity direction!

 

Use

To Assemble Gridfinity Baseplates:

  1. Set the whole Jigfinity assembly down so that the base-jig is on top, and place magnets on the four magnet lifts - they will snap to the right orientation.
  2. (Apply minimal super glue as needed to the holes in the baseplate.)
  3. Flip the Jigfinity over, magnets down, and remove the bin-jig
  4. Place the Jigfinity with magnets into the base.
  5. With your finger in the “holdy-hole,” separate the magnet holder from the Jigfinity.
  6. (Press each magnet as needed.)
  7. Lift off the base-jig.

To Assemble Gridfinity Bins:

  1. Flip the Jigfinity assembly so that the bin-jig is on top, and place magnets on the four magnet lifts - they will snap to the right orientation.
  2. (Apply minimal super glue as needed to the holes in the bin.)
  3. Flip the Jigfinity over, magnets down.
  4. Place the Jigfinity with magnets into the bin.
  5. With your finger in the “holdy-hole,” separate the magnet holder from the Jigfinity.
  6. (Press each magnet as needed.)
  7. Lift off the bin-jig.

Printed fine even with same material for support. Just adjusted the Top Z distance and printed no problem

The jig works well. It's a bit confusing at first, but it's well worth the time to figure it out. For me, the trouble was figuring out which part was base/magnet/bin. If I was thinking, I would have chosen white for the magnet layer and black for the other 2 layers - remembering an Oreo cookie would be easier. Maybe I'd sink some labels into each layer on the next time around, too. Overall, these jigs are a huge time saver for the projects that don't have press fits.
