Description

REVISION 08/01/2023:

  • Uploaded a revision of “Endcap” and “Side A” to more securely fasten the two together and also to raise the assembly off of the floor of your storage tote by a couple of mm.

ORIGINAL POST:

You will need

  • x2 M3 threaded inserts
  • x2 M3 x 5-12mm screws
  • A few drops of super glue
    • ~OR~ Something (like a soldering iron) to melt the filament used as a pin to hold the 3 sides together

Instructions

  1. Print 1 of each side A, B, and C, and 2 endcaps.
  2. Side C has two printed bosses which will take a 3mm threaded insert. Use a soldering iron or other type of insert tool to heat and press these into place.
    • The holes in these bosses are modeled at 5mm, and you may need to drill them out to the correct size for your particular threaded inserts.
  3. Fit 2 of the sides together like a hinge. A piece of spare filament will be inserted through the interlocking pieces like a hinge pin. Place a drop of super glue at either end of it to hold it in place.
    • Depending on the accuracy of your printer, you may have to drill out the holes with a 1.8-2.0mm or 5/64" drill bit, however, the holes are teardrop-shaped to account for the overhang droop and should print ok.
  4. Fit the third side to the first two sides in the same manner as the step above, using 2 pieces of filament this time.
  5. Insert the two tabs on one edge of the endcap into the slots at either end of Side A. Then, insert and tighten one of the M3 screws into the threaded insert opposite the tabs to secure the endcap.
  6. Place the assembly down with the open end facing up and fill with your choice of desiccant. Then, install the 2nd endcap as described above to seal your desiccant holder.
