Description

Best Pi(e) award!

Created this trophy for an office Pi day (3/14) pie making contest. It was as big a hit as the pies were (especially with the engineers). It's a great conversation starter for the winner.

Happy printing!

ASSEMBLY

Print pieces and assemble with super glue. The dowels are primarily there to locate the pi on the pie and break easily (across layer lines). As such, be sure to get some super glue between the pi and pie pieces.

FILAMENT

I printed mine in Overture Matte Tan PLA, Overture Wine Red PLA, and Sunlu Silk Silver PLA. The pi symbol is sliced as a silk PLA, but should print fine (if slightly slower) in any other PLA.

PRINT ORIENTATION

I oriented the front face of the pi symbol against the textured PEI plate to get the nice shiny effect, but you could flip it in your BambuStudio/OrcaSlicer if you prefer a top surface or ironed surface to the textured PEI effect.

SLICING TIPS

If you choose to slice this one yourself, right click the STEP file and click, “Split to Objects” then run an auto-arrange. You'll need to duplicate the dowel. There is a face for the colored inside of the pie slice, so when multi-color-painting, just click where you think it is with a fill tool and it'll color correctly.
