Description

RC Model Stand V21

The only “RC Model Stand” you will ever need!

My bother and I designed this stand to be both elegant and functional, requiring as few external parts as possible. We used external parts to save on printing time and to create the strongest stand possible.

Therefore the RC Model Stand uses the following external parts:

  1. Ruthex M5x9.5 Brass Heat Insert (from Amazon 50pc - https://a.co/d/iuPKAY5)
  2. uxcell M5 x 15mm Metric Male Thread Thumb Screws (from Amazon 12pc - https://a.co/d/2pbGg1b)
  3. 2 @ 24" 1" Class 200 (thin walled) PVC Pipe (from Home Depot 10' piece)
  4. (optional) 3/8" or 10mm wide door foam about 1/8" to 3mm thick, sticky on one side (from Amazon - https://a.co/d/1PHMi5V)
  5. (optional) Large Rubber Bands (from Amazon - https://a.co/d/coajynZ)

Assembly

  1. Print out all the assembly parts. (If you have more than one printer, be sure to print the Base and Extension on the same printer!)
  2. Cut 2 24" sections from the 10' PVC purchased from Home Depot. Use generous Acetone with a paper towel to clean off any black lettering on the pipe. (Once clean, chalk paint from Home Depot sticks extremely well to this pipe if you want to paint it!)
  3. Press all the M5 inserts into each of the matting holes with a soldering iron set to 15 degrees above the plastic melting temperature (about 275c for PETG). Be sure to insert them on the flat side for the extensions.
  4. Insert the end caps into the ends of the PVC pipes you cut.
  5. Now you can just assemble all the pieces how they naturally fit.

Optional

  1. You can wrap each of the Grips with the optional foam to provide some protection to your model.
  2. You can also add a strip to each extension between the upper rubber band nubs for added protection too.

Using the RC Model Stand

Adjust the stand width to the best position for your model. This may be different for different models. Then set your model on the stand between the two end pieces with the grips loose. Now move the grips into position to hold the model the way you want and tighten the thumb screws. If you would like the model higher on one side (like for airplanes), loosen the thumbs screw on one side and raise that part of the model and retighten the thumb screw.

If you will be transporting your model in the RC Model Stand, you can use a pair of large rubber bands around each of the extension slides to help secure the model. There are two rubber band nubs on each side of the extension slides for this purpose.
