Here, I've merged two of my newly embraced hobbies: 3D modeling and printing, alongside cultivating plants.
I designed this contemporary planter, where I combined basic geometries, including a cylinder, a sphere, and extruded lines to create a ribbed pattern. I've gifted a few to my friends, who were delighted! 😊
I have included two different planters with two sizes, each. Feel free to resize and adjust them as you wish.
- The large planter measures approximately 15 cm in maximum diameter by 11 cm in height.
- The smaller planter stands at 10 cm in maximum diameter and 8.5 cm in height.
The planters' ribbed exteriors are best printed using precise, slow settings. It will be worth the waiting
Layer height: 0.2 mm // Vertical perimeters: 3 or 4 // Top solid layers: 4 to 5 // Bottom solid layers: 4 to 5 // Avoid crossing perimeters; allow extra perimeters if necessary.
External perimeters: 100 to 125 mm/s // Internal perimeters: 125 to 150 mm/s // Small perimeters: 50 mm/s // Infill speed: 200 to 250 mm/s // Solid and top solid infill speed: 150 mm/s // Gap fill: 50 mm/s // First layer speed: 40 mm/s // Acceleration: Use default for Precise or Normal settings; avoid exceeding 1000 mm/s for external perimeters and 2500 mm/s for maximum settings to prevent artifacts.
Seam position: Aligned (preferred) or Nearest // Print external perimeters first.
Infill density: 15% to 20% // Fill pattern: Gyroid (to reduce printing artifacts); feel free to select your favorite // Bottom and top fill patterns: Select according to preference; I used Archimedean Chords and Concentric patterns.
Skirt: 3 or 4 loops to prime the nozzle // Brim: Not required.
No supports needed.
After printing, test for water tightness by filling with water; no leaks or weight change should occur after a few days. For scaled-down models with thin walls/bases (< 2 mm), consider a water-repellent coating or avoid water pooling.
