• The first Italian to swim the 100-meter freestyle in under a minute.
• A competitor in the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games for swimming and water polo.

After his athletic career, he took on the stage name Bud Spencer and became a film star, beloved for his action-packed roles alongside his long-time partner Terence Hill.
