Description

I was inspired by Michael over at Teaching tech with his filament sensor video. Check out his video below:

This design uses the same setup, but the filament sensor is mounted to the frame of the printer. This allows the filament sensor to also function as a filament guide. Due to the way it was designed, you're free to mount the sensor where it is convenient for your filament path. This is compatible with most standard aluminum extrusion used on a 3D printer and has been tested on the Creality CR-10 and Ender 3.

Materials you will need are as follows:

1x Microswitch (Link below.)
1x M3x8 bolt
1x M3 nut
2x M4x12 bolt
2x M4 T-Nut
PTFE tubing (I used the crappy tubing that came with my CR-10.)

Notes:

2 perimeters worked fine for me. You might have to flip the second piece to lay on its back. The print is very simple, and should only take an hour to complete. Can be printed in PLA without issue.

Post-Printing

It's helpful to slightly bore the ends of the PTFE to make loading filament easier. You may need to bend the microswitch arm to accommodate any variance in the manufacturing/brand. It's ideal to have the switch activate with the barest of variation so you can capture when the filament runs out consistently.
