This is my first model that isn't 2D art as a way to continue my learning how to design 3D models. Please keep that in mind when providing feedback. I want to learn. :-)
This model features positionable control surfaces. I wanted to make something a little different from the other kit cards out there and was curious about the mechanics of making moving parts and came up with the following solution:
The print profile I provided features 1 layer of PLA that connects the control surface to the fixed structure. You'll have to be slightly forceful for the initial movement, but after that I've found the hinge to actually be quite durable as long as hinges aren't hyperextended.
Hinges function based on 0.2mm layer height. Because of that, scaling could be troublesome. Check the slicer to confirm. Rudder should have 2 layers, all other surfaces have just 1.
Assembly will likely require a few drops of glue for the wheels and struts at the very least.
Horizontal stabilizer interlocks within the slot. And you can choose which side you want up for the tail surfaces.
If you have recommendations for my next model, please feel free to reach out.
