Description

Wanted to speedtest some Sainsmart PETG-HF (250-280C at up to 500mm/s) that said it can print up to 500mm/s, so I went looking for a high speed Benchy. After a volumetric flow rate calibration, I found that at 270C the PETG had a flow rate of 29.5mm/s, so I set it at 28 for the Benchy. In the testing so far, the documented speed claims are matching up wiht the material specs from Sainsmart.

 

Decided to try out Flat Stick's remix as it has a Benchy print for 10-11mins.

 

The model printed remarkably well with only minimal defects (mostly fine-hair stringing). Both the normal speed print (13m39s) and the Ludicrous (~7-8min) show the same stringing in the same place, so it seems to be more print temp tuning than print speed.

 

As is PETG, I fully expected it not to be able to handle the speeds or find that it could go up to 500 mm/s for something like 10-20mm, but then the normal print speed would be around 60-100mm/s. The normal speed Benchy showed at 302-342mm/s speed, but at Ludicrous (166%) that would theoretically mean it printed at ~500mm/s to 567mm/s. While I still consider myself a 3D printing novice, that is incredible since the best I could get a good PETG print, with good layer adhesion and without zits, on my old printer was at 50mm/s. So 6x the speed is amazing.

 

Haven't done any large, detailed prints with this PETG yet, but the silica gel drying inserts for my dehydrator printed amazingly smooth and clean at ~370mm/s
