Description

This is my little smart rain sensor! I've seen a few of these knocking around on other sites, but thought I'd have a stab at one myself, that looks a little prettier :-) The idea is that the device can either stay outside permanently, or act as an aid when clothes washing is on the line. I've made it so it can be easily taken in and out as necessary.

Things you need to make it

  1. 3D Printer (obviously)
  2. 2 screws to fit it to a post
  3. A rain sensor board such as this.
  4. A water sensor such as this. I have based it on the Aqara water sensor, so not sure if others will fit.

Instructions

  1. Wire the sensor to the rain drops board as the photo
  2. Slide the rain drop board into the casing, drop the water sensor into the large part, then the two sit ontop of eachother. Note, they should balance using the small square to help locate them.
  3. Take the top piece (with the writing on it) and it should nicely clip over the top of the two pieces which hold it all securely in place.
  4. Slide the back triangles into the rear of the unit.
  5. Hang up the fixing plate with 2 screws wherever you think is best.
  6. Slide the unit in place!

General Details

  • Everything clips together without screws/glue etc.
  • I've created space for the little pins at the top to use the plugged in version of the included cable (no solder!)
  • It's been designs to fully cover the few electronic joints to prevent rain ingress. There is also a overhang and drip to the bottom of the board to prevent additional ingress from the raindrop sensor.

Good model, but the part which accommodates the raindrop module is a little too small, I increased this part to 101.15% and it now fits perfectly!
