Description

This model is for converting a Print Bed cardboard spool to a Bambu Lab spool. This is done by tearing the sides off the core and inserting the spacer into the core so it fits in a Bambu reusable spool (for example the ones that come with an AMS, etc.)

Here is how it works:

I did it a little backwards, but the spacer can really go on either side of the spool, just depends which side you take off first. It works better if you remove the color side first (the one I did last in the video) in my opinion.

Very handy model as I use a fair amount of Printed filament. Only gripe I have is that it does fit pretty tight to hub of the Bambu spools. Worried that I may break the spacer if/when I have to remove it.

Out of curiosity, how new is that Bambu spool? I based the model off the clear ones back in March of 2023 and I understand Bambu has a new spool so perhaps the tolerances changed slightly? If you can give me the dimensions of the inner part of the spool and the length/width/height of the nub that locks it in, I can look into making an updated version. (I might also add one of the new spools to my cart for this month's sale)

81.45mm diameter at the spools side. The nub is 3.09x3.82x5.69 (LxWxH), length being the distance out from spools center.

I've printed 4 of these so far, fantastic! Wondering if it could be remixed just to use the inner ring? You'd have to be more careful while transferring but could be a good way to make the printer faster.

I'm glad they work great for you! I initially started with just an inner ring, but I had the filament slide out since Printbed spools are narrower than the Bambu Spools. This caused some tangling. I actually ended up chucking about 400g because of it. Not wanting to waste, I eventually retrieved it and respooled onto 5 separate spools because of the breaks from twisting and printed prototypes with that filament today. Trust me, only an inner ring was a massive pain.

That's actually a good point - It gives too much room to the filament and starts to unspool. I've only used these so far on already used Printbed spools so it's likely going to be that much easier once I use it on a spool that is still new/taped down. Thanks again!

You're welcome! As a suggestion, I highly recommend keeping some of the Printbed stickers (the strip that holds the end of the filament on a fresh spool) stuck to your table/workbench, and then grab them as needed and stick them around any partial spool to hold the filament in place when transferring partial spools. About 3-4 is enough peace of mind. They have a pretty strong adhesive that lasts a long time.

Just used this ring to swap over some Printbed filament from Apr 2022. Easy print, worked great. Going to print out a couple more. This is WAY easier than trying to respool. Thanks so much!
