Game pieces for the ancient boardgame Hounds and Jackals. This game has similar mechanics to Chutes/Snakes and Ladders, and is considered a “chase” game. Each player has 5 pieces that they will race to the end of the path (Ankh/Shen) with some spaces granting an additional role (Nefer) and others moving the player token forward or backwards.
These prints make 6 Hound and Jackal player pieces, just in case, and are based on the board and pieces listed in the open sources digital assets of The Met. [Middle Kingdom. pit tomb CC 25. Reign of Amenemhat IV. Carnarvon/Carter excavations, 1910]
