Description

🇲🇽 Welcome to Yucatán, Mexico!

This model was created by Artemio García. This is available in two versions:

  • Actual state (ruins)
  • Hypothetical reconstruction

One of the New 7 Wonders of the World and one of Mexico's most recognizable landmarks, the Pyramid of Kukulkan / El Castillo is the main attraction of the ancient Mayan city of Chichén-Itzá and its archeological site.

It is located in the Yucatán state and peninsula, in southeastern Mexico. El Castillo ("the Castle" in Spanish) is the "nickname" given to the pyramid by the Spanish settlers and local people, after the original dedication to the Mayan God Kukulkan was forgotten.

Kukulkan was one of the most important gods of all Pre-Hispanic cultures, equivalent to Quetzalcoatl in central Mexico. He was the feathered serpent and god of arts and wisdom.

The architectural style of this pyramid and all of Chichén-Itzá is of striking Toltec influence, so it looks different from other Mayan sites like Uxmal or Tikal. It has 4 staircases with 365 steps each, one for each day of the year. Every detail in this pyramid is by design and intentionally full of astronomical, religious, and philosophical significance.

Printed this in time for the total solar eclipse. I couldn't it set right to get the effect of a serpent moving down the stairs.
